The Hotel San Francesco al Monte is the result of a project to rehabilitate and convert the left wing of the ancient monastery of Santa Lucia al Monte, directed by the architect Luciano Raffin.
The monastery dates back to the 16th century and originated with the first single cell that Friar Augustine Miglionico of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, also known as the “Barbanti” for their flowing beards, carved into the side of the hill of San Martino in an isolated area of the mountain. Over time, the first cell evolved into the Church of Saint Lucia Vergine e Martire, and a more extensive and organised religious complex developed alongside it on the hillside.
Access
The location of the hotel, between the two main funiculars of the city, is ideal for those who want to enjoy the centre of Naples.
By Car
Motorways bring you to the Naples ring road, the Tangenziale. Take Exit 6 (Arenella toll) and follow towards Piazza Mazzini and then Corso Vittorio Emanuele. You can turn left at the first traffic light, then the second traffic light on the left, the third traffic light on the right and the fourth traffic light straight on 300 m. The hotel is in the driving direction.
From the Airport
Take a 20-minute taxi ride from Capodichino Airport, which is about 10 km away, or take the ALIBUS that brings you to town in 40 minutes.
By Public Transport
The Monsanto funicular linking Piazzeta Monsanto to Castel Sant’Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino stops at C.V. Emanuele, about 400 m from the hotel.
The central funicular station on Corso Vittorio Emmanuele is about 300 m from the hotel.
ANM bus C16 stops right outside the hotel. You can catch it at Mergellina station on Line 2, which runs between the central train station and Fuorigrotta.
The hotel is about 4 km from Mergellina station and 7 km from the Piazza Garibaldi train station.
